I make wheel thrown stoneware functional pottery. This includes dinnerware, serving pieces, brie bakers, rice bowls, yarn bowls, and my specialty, earring holders. Work is thrown, trimmed, bisque fired, washed, glazed and fired to cone 6 in oxidation. All work is made myself from beginning to end in my wonderful studio in my backyard in Bloomington, IN. There are 3 kilns, 2 wheels, lots of tables and a huge drying rack.
My adventures in clay began in 1984 at Indiana University where, at the age of 34, I took 3 short, for fun classes at the Campus Community Art Center. I then went on to 2 semesters at the official ceramics department. After a move to Olympia, WA, I managed a for fun ceramics shop at Evergreen State College for the year that I lived there. Upon my return to Bloomington in 1986, I took over management and teaching at the same small studio where I had thrown my first pots. I worked and taught there for 4 years. In 1990, I was able to build my own studio at home and I have been making and selling pottery ever since!
As of April 2011, I have been working in clay for 27 years and making my entire living by it for over 18 years. I earn most of my living by travelling to regional art fairs and festivals, averaging about 15 shows a year. I have also developed a successful wholesale business with my earring holders. In between shows and in the winter, I work daily in my studio producing all of the work I hope to sell.
