Drum and Rattle Making Demonstrations
From natural materials to primal rhythms, come experience the spectrum of drumming and rattle making! Watch us make a drum and rattle, and take the opportunity to put hands on a drum and find your own rhythm - no experience necessary.
Drum making will be demonstrated Saturday, May 14 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Rattle making will be shown at 2 p.m. and decorating a rattle at 3 p.m. in the AromaSounds classroom of Integrative Medicine of Kentucky, 233 N. 7th Street, Paducah KY. The AromaSounds classroom entrance is on the Monroe Street side of the building.
Cultures all around the world use drums for healing, celebration and spirituality. Drums serve as a portal to musical expression and creativity. Rattles are used to break up "stuck" energy. Shamans have been using them in many cultures for healing and journey work and they are great rhythm instruments.
"...drumming activities induce holistic modes of consciousness through synchronous brain activity and provide a vital connection with the spiritual dimensions of human health that have been lacking in modern societies. Research reviews indicate that drumming accelerates physical healing, boosts the immune system and produces feelings of well-being, and release of emotional trauma." The American Journal of Public Health, April 2003.

A few finished drums and rattles will be for sale. Informal drum playing can take place at any time. Interested people may also sign up for a drum or rattle-making making workshop.
Find the joy, laughter and meditative experience of drumming and learn to "shake it up".
